Journal of Materials Education (Electronic) welcomes original manuscripts related to education in materials science and engineering, including pedagogy, new materials, characterization methods, processing techniques, laboratory education, curriculum development, assessment methods, and educational program development.

Authors may submit their manuscripts by email to: editor@materialeducation.org

Manuscripts may be prepared in any standard academic format. The journal accepts manuscripts in commonly used formats, including Microsoft Word, LaTeX, or other standard scholarly formats. Authors should ensure that the manuscript is clear, complete, properly organized, and suitable for peer review.

Types of Manuscripts

The journal welcomes scholarly contributions including original research articles, review articles, educational case studies, curriculum development papers, laboratory teaching papers, technical education papers, short communications, and other manuscripts relevant to materials science and engineering education.

Each manuscript should normally include the following information:

Title of the manuscript

Author names and institutional affiliations

Corresponding author name and email address

Abstract

Keywords

Main text

Tables and figures, if applicable

Acknowledgements, if applicable

Funding statement, if applicable

References

The manuscript should be written in clear academic English. Authors should use consistent formatting throughout the manuscript. Section headings, tables, figures, equations, citations, and references should be presented clearly and accurately.

Abstract and Keywords

The manuscript should include a concise abstract that summarizes the purpose, methods or approach, main findings, and contribution of the work. Authors should also provide relevant keywords that reflect the subject area of the manuscript and improve discoverability.

Tables, Figures, and Illustrations

Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively and cited in the text. Each table and figure should include a clear caption. Images, graphs, diagrams, and illustrations should be of suitable quality for online publication.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all figures, tables, photographs, diagrams, teaching materials, questionnaires, screenshots, or other third-party materials are used with proper permission where required. Any adapted or reproduced material must be clearly credited to the original source.

References

References should be complete, accurate, and formatted consistently. Authors may use any standard academic reference style at the time of submission, provided that the citation and reference format is clear and uniform throughout the manuscript.

All sources cited in the text must appear in the reference list, and all references listed must be cited in the manuscript.

Originality and Ethical Requirements

Submitted manuscripts must be original and must not be under consideration by another journal at the same time. Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript does not contain plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated data, falsified results, misleading claims, or inappropriate use of copyrighted material.

For manuscripts involving human participants, student data, surveys, interviews, classroom observations, institutional records, animals, plants, biological materials, environmental samples, or related data, authors must provide appropriate ethical approval, consent, permission, or explanation where required.

Authors must disclose any conflict of interest, funding source, institutional support, or other relationship that may influence the work.

Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools

Authors may use artificial intelligence tools for language improvement, editing support, translation assistance, formatting, or similar purposes. However, AI tools must not be listed as authors and must not replace human responsibility for the manuscript.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, citations, data, interpretations, and conclusions of the submitted work. Any use of AI tools that has materially contributed to the manuscript should be disclosed clearly in the manuscript.

AI tools must not be used to create false references, fabricate data, manipulate results, produce misleading content, or violate publication ethics.

Submission Process

After submission, each manuscript is checked by the editorial office for completeness, journal scope, formatting, originality, and ethical compliance. The initial editorial screening is normally completed within 10 days.

Manuscripts that meet the journal’s requirements are sent for single-blind peer review. In this process, reviewers know the identity of the authors, but reviewer identities remain confidential.

The full review process is normally completed within 4 months, depending on reviewer availability, manuscript quality, and the extent of revision required. Authors are informed of editorial decisions as soon as the review process is completed.

Editorial Decisions

After peer review, the manuscript may receive one of the following decisions:

Accept

Minor revision

Major revision

Resubmission after revision

Reject

When revisions are requested, authors should submit a revised manuscript together with a clear response to the reviewers’ and editor’s comments.

Publication and Open Access

Accepted manuscripts are scheduled for publication in the upcoming issue of Journal of Materials Education (Electronic). The journal publishes three issues annually under one volume, in April, August, and December.

From 2024 onward, the journal operates as a Diamond Open Access journal. Authors are not required to pay submission fees, article processing charges, publication fees, page charges, or online hosting charges.

All articles published from 2024 onward are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), allowing readers to read, download, share, distribute, adapt, and reuse the published work with proper attribution.
